New name - New blogspot address...

So here's the deal - when I started this blog I tried so hard (way past my bedtime one night) to figure out a name so that the name and blogspot address would match. I was tired & couldn't think, my hubby was helping me; for some reason it never occurred to us to just make it match my e-mail address...LOL. Fast-forward a couple of months of trying to come up with a catchy name and it hits me - DUH - make it match your e-mail address which is - westkycouponlady(at)gmail(dot)com.

So, click here to go to my new blogspot address where my new posts will be. I'm also looking at the possibility of switching to a dotcom and dropping the blogspot part altogether but that's in the distant future.

Thanks for reading!

Only Saved 68% at Kroger....

So a friend and I are wondering what we've come to. I ran in Kroger on Park Avenue Thursday, to get ground beef for spaghetti (really need to catch some good sales to restock the freezer) and do the Aussie/ Herbal Essence Hair Deal. Ended up spending $16.80 including $1.?? in tax but only saved 68% - like somehow that's just not enough savings. I can't find my receipt to double-check all the amounts - still haven't found my good CVS one from Tuesday either - what can I say? My son went back to school this week and it apparently just messed me up completely...LOL

Here's the breakdown:

4.2 lbs bananas, 39¢/lb because they were ripe - but not too ripe for us :-)
2.21 lbs apples, 89¢/lb
1.69 lbs ground chuck, $1.78 lb Manager's Special
1 box New York Brand Frozen Garlic Toast, $2.50, used a 50¢ q which doubled to $1.00
1 candy bar (100 Grand), 33¢ on clearance
3 printer ink cartridges, $2.09/ea on clearance, sometimes it's good to have an older printer
1 Scotch Brand Mailroom Supplies Paper Cutter, $1.50 on clearance, used a 50¢ q which doubled to $1.00
1 box Bounce Pure Essentials Dryer Sheets 105 ct, clearance $1.69, used a 50¢ q which doubled to $1.00 and had 50¢ PG esaver coupon on card
1 Bottle Aussie Shampoo, $2.99
1 Bottle Aussie Conditioner, $2.99, used $2/2 Aussie Products, and $2.00 Aussie PG esaver coupon on card
1 Bottle Herbal Essence Shampoo, $2.99
1 Can Herbal Essence Hairspray, $2.99, used buy 1 Herbal Essence Shampoo or Conditioner get 1 Herbal Essence Styling Product Free (scanned at $3.69) and had $1 Herbal Essence PG esaver coupon on card
-$4.00 P & G buy 4 get $4 off promotion

So, I'm looking at my receipt which has my savings listed and see Total Savings 68% and think "That's all?" Seriously? I think I need a reality check!

**Aussie/ Herbal Essence Deal**
buy 2 Aussie @ $2.99/ea
buy 1 Herbal Essence shampoo or conditioner @$2.99
buy 1 Herbal Essence styling product @ $2.99
Total 11.96 plus 72¢ tax = $12.68
- $4 P & G promotion = $8.68
-$2/2 Aussie = 6.68
-$2 Aussie PG esaver = $4.68
-$2.99 or $3.69 depending on how the cashier rings free styling product q = $1.69 or 99¢
-$1 Herbal Essence PG esaver = 69¢ OOP or 1¢ overage

My Kroger Trip(s) 7/28

The Last of the Mega 10 Sale

Took the last of my printable Soft-soap, Speedstick, SoBe and Purina to take advantage of the freebies & moneymakers for this sale. Also used the new milk printables - so happy with these! At the Kroger on Park Avenue a lot of the "Free" coupons end up being money-makers because there's a dollar limit on them that apparently comes up and if the cashier doesn't override it with the actual price.... For instance, the coupon for a free gallon of white milk rang up $4.00 and the one for the free half-gallon of chocolate milk rang up $3.75; the SoBe rang up $1.79 and she only overrode 2 of the 7 that I used.

I came out several dollars less than I was expecting so I looked at my receipt when I got in the car after I loaded the groceries in and made this discovery. What an wonderful surprise. I took advantage of the $7 or so that I didn't spend there and the extra $10 hubby handed me that I wasn't expecting to have (self-employment - sometimes you just don't know when the check is really going to get and went to the Kroger at Hannan Plaza to get meat.

Only 32% savings, but since I just went for meat, that's okay with me.

CVS Advisor Panel

Go here to sign up for the CVS Advisor Panel.

I signed up a month or two ago; last Monday I received an email from them asking if I would be interested in completing a survey today (providing I qualified). I clicked on the link and answered the questions to see if I qualified, at the end of the questions it said I qualified, gave me instructions so I would be ready when I received the email today. The survey today probably took around 15 minutes, now my account will be credited 10 EB on August 13th (works out well since that's my birthday).

I don't know how they determine who to select for the surveys since I got this one but a friend of mine who is signed up with them didn't (sorry Penny), but I'm really glad that I signed up!

**I almost didn't post this trip because of the exceptionally large number of printables I used. At a print limit of 2 per computer, this is a large number to have. I have traded for some, had people who didn't need them print some and printed some at the local library. For those who view this as crossing an ethical line, I'm sorry it bothered you. It may seem like an excessive amount of soap and deodorant, but it will all be used and since I was making money on the deodorant to offset the cost of other items I bought a lot these past couple of weeks and it has helped!

My Very Small CVS Trip Today

I had a much larger one that involved a $10 off $50 coupon, $2.94 ECB and $1.70 cash, but I'm too tired tonight to pull out the receipt or remember the details - Maybe tomorrow. Meanwhile, my small stop at the Hannan Plaza CVS today went as follows:

(7) J&J First Aid Kits 99¢ each - $6.93
(7) J&J Red Cross $1.00 q's - 6.93 (CVS adjusted down to avoid overage)
42¢ OOP (cash - what can I say I just went crazy...LOL)

This brought me to a total of 10 kits = $9.90 so I was thinking I would have to stop at the CVS in Lone Oak & see if they had any kits left so I could go ahead and get my $5 ECB. Even my receipt from this trip says - Total spent toward this ECB $9.90, total needed to earn this ECB $0.10.

So imagine my surprise when the $5 ECB printed on this receipt! Don't know why since the receipt shows the correct total spent; don't think I really care why, I'm just thankful for what I received.

I went to the Kroger on Park Ave but shortly into the trip discovered they didn't have the Sunny D Smoothies I had coupons for so I just picked up a few items (as usual I didn't keep my Mega 10 items to multiples of 10 - I had 11); seems like I'm always losing count.

No matter how hard I try I keep losing count of my Mega 10 items. Three of the items were clearance Edwards Singles items & I was afraid that the clearance ones might not count in the Mega 10 sale, so I didn't count them. I see other bloggers out there with much better savings percentages and I could be so jealous sometimes. Our selection here just isn't what it is in some areas (of course, I realize we have it better than I am grateful for what we do have.)

When you consider our limited selection of stores, Kroger is by far the winner - for me - in our area since they double q's up to 60¢ and usually have pretty good sales along with a better selection than some of our other grocery options. Overall, I can't do this well most places around here. I will stop by the other grocery stores to catch a few items when they have something priced really well; and, of course I shop CVS (and sometimes Walgreens and Wal-Mart.) But for now - I'm going Krogering!

I went to Kroger (Park Ave in Paducah) this afternoon to get some things that were going off sale today. Of course, they had already tagged many of the items that will be in the Mega 10 sale starting tomorrow. Here are the ones I found and wrote down.

These prices are before the $5.00/10 or 50¢/item. Many of them are listed on Southern Savers Kroger match-ups, but there will be some differences. One of the most notable differences is that once again, Kraft & Sargento cheese do not appear to be included in our sale.

While reading through comments on Southern Savers, I found a comment someone left stating that there is a 1.50 Q from for Speed Stick, just enter zip code 33907. I went to, found it on page one and printed 2. I tried with several other zip codes, but this was the only one I tried that brought up this Q.

A Lesson Learned...the hard way

During a trip to Kroger (in Murray) earlier this week, I noticed some of my 50¢ coupons weren't doubling. I asked the cashier why but he had no clue. After checking out, the hubby and I stopped by customer service where the lady tried to explain that only mfg coupons doubled so they were probably store coupons (this was interesting as her English was somewhat broken and hubby and I were both having a hard time understanding), and we tried to explain that they were in fact mfg coupons because we had others just like them in this transaction.

After a few minutes of finding out nothing, another cashier overheard and told us that they will only double 8 identical coupons per transaction, a lesson she learned the hard way herself. It would have been so nice if the customer service lady had known to tell us this when we asked about their coupon doubling policy... oh well, the coupons were expiring that day and it was still a good price without them doubling. It just would have been better if we had known so we could do separate transactions and saved that extra $6.00. Now I know! And, since the Murray store seems to have the same policies as the Paducah stores I'm going to check to see if their limit for doubling is also 8 identical coupons.

Last week I was out of town at church camp with our youth internet, no tv, very little phone service...

The week before, our church had VBS at night and my hubby had several doctors' appointments during the days...

All this contributed to my not going to the grocery store for 2 weeks! Oh, the deals I missed!!! :-( Thankfully, I'm getting back into a routine now, so hopefully I will be on top of the deals again!

Walgreens Moneymaker Starting Tomorrow (5/31)

Starting tomorrow, Walgreens has Ecotrin for $2.00 with $2.00 Register Rewards. Go to Smart Source to print $2.25 coupons for Ecotrin. My experience has usually been that the coupons will adjust (or be adjusted) to the purchase price, but I have heard that sometimes you can get overage at Walgreens.

A friend told me last night that the last time she tried to buy a single item at the Paducah Southside Walgreens to get the RR and used a coupon the RR didn't print. The cashier told her it was b/c she used a coupon and that could keep the RR from printing. I have only tried this at the Hannan Plaza Walgreens and have never had a problem getting the RR.

If you print your 2 coupons from Smart Source and can get the Ecotrin free plus the RR it is a good way to start building your RR. One piece of advice - when Walgreens has these items on sale with RR for the purchase amount (most weeks they have at least one item) they tend to be gone early in the week, and you may not catch any in stock later in the week. Definitely check out the I Heart Wags link on the left of the screen to learn more about Walgreens and to look at sales and deals for upcoming weeks.

Brand New Blog

After my couponing encounters at stores and restaurants this week, and with encouragement from my hubby, I finally decided to try my hand at a blog. My thoughts on the matter are pretty much "What's the worst that can happen, nobody ever finds it or wants to read it? Then I keep going solely for my own amusement, or I don't - big deal."

I have recently re-entered the world of couponing and am constantly amazed by the savings I see from others. I can't believe by the number of stores out there that have incredible triple coupon deals going at the same time as awesome B1G1 sales. Unfortunately in this area our store selections are somewhat limited. My hope is to be able to work out some amazing deals in our area (McCracken, Graves, Marshall, Calloway) using the stores we do have.

I know this area is full of couponers - I see you in line with me at Books-a-Million on Sundays at 9 a.m. to buy newspapers. So if you happen across this blog, please leave a comment with any good deals, sales, coupons, freebies, etc. - any tips you have so we can all maximize our savings. If someone has or knows of an existing blog of this type in this area, please send me a link!

Thank you so much!
