Only Saved 68% at Kroger....
So a friend and I are wondering what we've come to. I ran in Kroger on Park Avenue Thursday, to get ground beef for spaghetti (really need to catch some good sales to restock the freezer) and do the Aussie/ Herbal Essence Hair Deal. Ended up spending $16.80 including $1.?? in tax but only saved 68% - like somehow that's just not enough savings. I can't find my receipt to double-check all the amounts - still haven't found my good CVS one from Tuesday either - what can I say? My son went back to school this week and it apparently just messed me up completely...LOL
Here's the breakdown:
4.2 lbs bananas, 39¢/lb because they were ripe - but not too ripe for us :-)
2.21 lbs apples, 89¢/lb
1.69 lbs ground chuck, $1.78 lb Manager's Special
1 box New York Brand Frozen Garlic Toast, $2.50, used a 50¢ q which doubled to $1.00
1 candy bar (100 Grand), 33¢ on clearance
3 printer ink cartridges, $2.09/ea on clearance, sometimes it's good to have an older printer
1 Scotch Brand Mailroom Supplies Paper Cutter, $1.50 on clearance, used a 50¢ q which doubled to $1.00
1 box Bounce Pure Essentials Dryer Sheets 105 ct, clearance $1.69, used a 50¢ q which doubled to $1.00 and had 50¢ PG esaver coupon on card
1 Bottle Aussie Shampoo, $2.99
1 Bottle Aussie Conditioner, $2.99, used $2/2 Aussie Products, and $2.00 Aussie PG esaver coupon on card
1 Bottle Herbal Essence Shampoo, $2.99
1 Can Herbal Essence Hairspray, $2.99, used buy 1 Herbal Essence Shampoo or Conditioner get 1 Herbal Essence Styling Product Free (scanned at $3.69) and had $1 Herbal Essence PG esaver coupon on card
-$4.00 P & G buy 4 get $4 off promotion
So, I'm looking at my receipt which has my savings listed and see Total Savings 68% and think "That's all?" Seriously? I think I need a reality check!
**Aussie/ Herbal Essence Deal**
buy 2 Aussie @ $2.99/ea
buy 1 Herbal Essence shampoo or conditioner @$2.99
buy 1 Herbal Essence styling product @ $2.99
Total 11.96 plus 72¢ tax = $12.68

-$2.99 or $3.69 depending on how the cashier rings free styling product q = $1.69 or 99¢

My Kroger Trip(s) 7/28
The Last of the Mega 10 Sale
Took the last of my printable Soft-soap, Speedstick, SoBe and Purina to take advantage of the freebies & moneymakers for this sale. Also used the new coupons.com milk printables - so happy with these! At the Kroger on Park Avenue a lot of the "Free" coupons end up being money-makers because there's a dollar limit on them that apparently comes up and if the cashier doesn't override it with the actual price.... For instance, the coupon for a free gallon of white milk rang up $4.00 and the one for the free half-gallon of chocolate milk rang up $3.75; the SoBe rang up $1.79 and she only overrode 2 of the 7 that I used.
I came out several dollars less than I was expecting so I looked at my receipt when I got in the car after I loaded the groceries in and made this discovery. What an wonderful surprise. I took advantage of the $7 or so that I didn't spend there and the extra $10 hubby handed me that I wasn't expecting to have (self-employment - sometimes you just don't know when the check is really going to get there...lol) and went to the Kroger at Hannan Plaza to get meat.

**I almost didn't post this trip because of the exceptionally large number of printables I used. At a print limit of 2 per computer, this is a large number to have. I have traded for some, had people who didn't need them print some and printed some at the local library. For those who view this as crossing an ethical line, I'm sorry it bothered you. It may seem like an excessive amount of soap and deodorant, but it will all be used and since I was making money on the deodorant to offset the cost of other items I bought a lot these past couple of weeks and it has helped!

I went to the Kroger on Park Ave but shortly into the trip discovered they didn't have the Sunny D Smoothies I had coupons for so I just picked up a few items (as usual I didn't keep my Mega 10 items to multiples of 10 - I had 11); seems like I'm always losing count.

I see other bloggers out there with much better savings percentages and I could be so jealous sometimes. Our selection here just isn't what it is in some areas (of course, I realize we have it better than some...so I am grateful for what we do have.)
When you consider our limited selection of stores, Kroger is by far the winner - for me - in our area since they double q's up to 60¢ and usually have pretty good sales along with a better selection than some of our other grocery options. Overall, I can't do this well most places around here. I will stop by the other grocery stores to catch a few items when they have something priced really well; and, of course I shop CVS (and sometimes Walgreens and Wal-Mart.) But for now - I'm going Krogering!

I went to Kroger (Park Ave in Paducah) this afternoon to get some things that were going off sale today. Of course, they had already tagged many of the items that will be in the Mega 10 sale starting tomorrow. Here are the ones I found and wrote down.
These prices are before the $5.00/10 or 50¢/item. Many of them are listed on Southern Savers Kroger match-ups, but there will be some differences. One of the most notable differences is that once again, Kraft & Sargento cheese do not appear to be included in our sale.

A Lesson Learned...the hard way
During a trip to Kroger (in Murray) earlier this week, I noticed some of my 50¢ coupons weren't doubling. I asked the cashier why but he had no clue. After checking out, the hubby and I stopped by customer service where the lady tried to explain that only mfg coupons doubled so they were probably store coupons (this was interesting as her English was somewhat broken and hubby and I were both having a hard time understanding), and we tried to explain that they were in fact mfg coupons because we had others just like them in this transaction.
After a few minutes of finding out nothing, another cashier overheard and told us that they will only double 8 identical coupons per transaction, a lesson she learned the hard way herself. It would have been so nice if the customer service lady had known to tell us this when we asked about their coupon doubling policy... oh well, the coupons were expiring that day and it was still a good price without them doubling. It just would have been better if we had known so we could do separate transactions and saved that extra $6.00. Now I know! And, since the Murray store seems to have the same policies as the Paducah stores I'm going to check to see if their limit for doubling is also 8 identical coupons.
